Cookies let a website remember information about your visit, which can make your next visit easier and the service more relevant to you. Similar technologies, including unique IDs used to identify an app or device, local storage, and session tokens, can serve the same function. Cookies and similar technologies, as described on this page, may be used for the purposes described below.

Purposes of cookies and similar technologies Ordnary uses

Ordnary may store or use some or all of the cookies or similar technologies in your browser, app, or device for the purposes described below. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, or through the privacy settings in your Ordnary account. Some of these technologies can also be managed through your device settings or within an app.

Functionality

Cookies and similar technologies used for functionality let you access features that are essential to a service. These cookies are used to deliver and maintain Ordnary services. Essential to a service includes remembering choices and preferences (such as your chosen language or interface theme), storing information about your session (such as the state of a workflow you're configuring), enabling features or carrying out tasks you've requested, and product optimizations that maintain and improve that service.

For example, most browsers of users signed in to an Ordnary account carry the ordnary_sess cookie, which tracks your session so you don't have to keep signing in as you navigate between our services. This cookie remains active for 14 days, or until you sign out. The ordnary_pref cookie remembers interface preferences, such as your preferred language, time zone, and whether you use light or dark mode, and remains active for 12 months. In dashboards within Ordnary Web Services, we use the ows_layout cookie to remember which panels and projects you last viewed; this remains active for 6 months.

Security

Ordnary uses cookies and similar technologies for security purposes to protect you while you use a service. This is done by authenticating users, protecting you against spam, fraud, and abuse, and tracking outages and security incidents.

The cookies and similar technologies used to authenticate users make sure only the true owner of an account has access to it. For example, the ordnary_sid cookie contains digitally signed and encrypted data about a user's account ID and their most recent sign-in. By combining this data with device and session information, Ordnary can block all kinds of attacks, such as attempts to hijack forms or API requests belonging to someone else. This cookie remains active for 2 years.

Some cookies and similar technologies are used to detect spam, fraud, and abuse. For example, the ordnary_csrf cookie checks whether requests within a session originate from the user themselves and not from another site, helping prevent malicious sites from impersonating a user without their knowledge. This cookie remains active for the duration of a user's session. The ows_ratelimit cookie, used in Ordnary Web Services, helps detect and limit automated abuse of our APIs and infrastructure, and remains active for 30 minutes.

Analytics

Ordnary uses cookies and similar technologies for analytics purposes to understand how you use our services. These cookies and similar technologies help us collect data that lets us measure usage statistics. This gives us insight into how services are used and lets us improve content, quality, and features. It also helps us develop new services and features.

The _oz_id cookie enables our analytics service to distinguish one visitor from another, without personally identifying individual visitors, and remains active for 2 years. This cookie is used across all our websites and in our products where analytics is implemented. Within our dashboards, we also use the ows_usage cookie, which collects aggregated usage measurements (such as how often workflows run or which API endpoints are called) to monitor performance and catch regressions; this cookie remains active for 13 months.

Personalization

Cookies and similar technologies are used to show personalized content. These cookies improve your user experience by providing personalized content and features, depending on your settings in your Ordnary account.

Personalized content and features include, for example, more relevant search results in our knowledge-indexing tools, and workflow templates suggested based on triggers you've used before in our automation tools. The ordnary_pref cookie (see Functionality above) is also used for this, together with account-linked preferences stored on our servers once you're signed in.

Even if you decline cookies and similar technologies for personalization, the non-personalized content and features you see may still be influenced by contextual factors such as your language, device type, or the content you're currently viewing.

Marketing and measuring our campaigns

On our marketing sites, we use cookies to measure how visitors find us and how effective our own campaigns are, for example when someone clicks through to ordnary.com from an ad on another website. We don't use this data to personalize third-party advertising, and we don't sell this data.

Cookies beginning with _ozc_ are used on our marketing sites to track which campaign a visitor arrived through, so we can measure how many of those visitors ultimately sign up for an Ordnary account. These cookies remain active for 90 days. Where we work with external advertising platforms to promote our own services, those platforms may set their own cookies on their domain when you click an ad for Ordnary; this happens under their own policies, not ours.

Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers give you the option to determine how cookies are set and used as you browse, and to clear cookies and browsing data. Your browser may also include settings that let you manage cookies on a per-site basis. Keep in mind that blocking some cookies, such as ordnary_sess or ordnary_csrf, may mean you can't sign in or that certain features of our services don't work.

Managing similar technologies in your apps and devices

Most mobile devices and apps give you ways to manage how similar technologies, such as unique IDs used to recognize an app or device, are set and used. App-specific IDs used by our mobile apps are typically managed from your device's privacy or app settings.
